The Gables built circa 1670 began life as a bakery with adjoining cottage. By 1850 the cottage had become village stores and Post Office and the bakery as part of general modernisation had a second story added in 1900. In 1930 with the closure of the bakery and relocation of the Post Office, The Gables became what was described then as a Private Hotel. The Bakery while retaining many of its original features was reconstructed as a restaurant and today serves as the guests breakfast room and tea rooms for non-residents.This fascinating period property has recently been extensively modernised to provide greater comfort and convenience while maintaining the property's essential character.
Situated midway between Yeovil and Crewkerne on the A30 The Gables is ideally situated for anyone wishing to enjoy the Dorset coast and numerous tourist sites in South Somerset as well as convenient to the business traveller visiting the comercial centres of Yeovil, Crewkerne and Chard.
